Hinterglemm is known for its first-class ski area, breathtaking mountain panoramas and a wide range of leisure activities. But there is one experience that surprises even experienced winter holidaymakers: the Baumzipfelweg trail at the end of the Hinterglemm valley.

On this 1 km circular trail, you wind your way across the snow-covered forest floor at heights of up to 30 meters. Stairs, towers, viewing platforms and suspension bridges lead you through the wintry tree landscape of Salzburger Land. The absolute highlight is the 200-metre-long “Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps”, which spans the head of the valley at a height of up to 42 meters and gives every visitor the feeling of floating above the treetops.

The result is a special kind of nature experience: where else can you touch the snow-covered tree tops with your hands?

The starting point of the Baumzipfelweg trail is at the Lindlingalm at the end of the Hinterglemm valley. To get there, first drive to the Talschluss parking lot.

From there, you have three charming options for covering the 2 km to the starting point of the Lindlingalm:

On foot through the wintry landscape at the head of the valley. A relaxed stroll that really heightens the anticipation.

Take a horse-drawn sleigh for a classic, romantic Alpine experience. An unforgettable journey, especially for families with children or couples.

With the hut cab for those who like it more comfortable or are less good on foot.

The path to the Baumzipfelweg is an experience in itself.

The 1 km long Baumzipfelweg offers much more than just an elevated walk through the forest. The entire trail is designed to combine nature, adventure and views in the best possible way.

Stairs and towers lead you upwards step by step and give you ever new perspectives on the wintery head of the valley.

Viewing platforms invite you to pause and take photos. Here you have a clear view of the surrounding mountains of the Skicircus, the snow-covered forest and the valley to Hinterglemm.

Suspension bridges connect the individual stations along the trail. The gentle swaying underfoot and the view below will make your heart beat faster.

The Golden Gate Bridge is the crowning glory: 200 meters long, 42 meters high, unforgettable views. Anyone who can’t stop marveling here has already become too accustomed to the extraordinary.

The trail is suitable for families with children, couples and solo travelers alike. The area is well secured and the route is also easy to manage for non-athletic visitors.

Bad weather, a day off from skiing or a visit with children who would rather experience something different: The Baumzipfelweg is open and recommended even in snowfall and stormy weather.

On the contrary: the treetop path takes on a very special character when it is snowing. The trees are covered in thick snow, the view of the bridge becomes foggy and mystical, and the sound of the silence in the snow is almost meditative.

For families, the Baumzipfelweg is an excellent addition to the ski offer in Hinterglemm. Children love the bridges and platforms, while parents enjoy the experience of nature without lift queues and the hustle and bustle of the slopes.

Plan enough time: The trail itself is 1 km long, but you will want to take plenty of breaks in between, take photos and enjoy the view. Allow at least 1.5 to 2 hours for the entire excursion.

Sturdy footwear is a must: in winter, the platforms and steps can be slippery. Snowproof winter shoes or mountain boots are highly recommended.

It is particularly atmospheric in the evening: the trail is open until 21:00 and is illuminated at dusk. A visit in the evening has a magic all of its own, especially when there is snowfall or a clear starry sky.

Combination with the Lindlingalm: The starting point is right next to the Lindlingalm. A refreshment stop before or after the Wipfelweg is a wonderful way to round off the excursion.
