Treetop trail in Hinterglemm: Touching the snowy treetops, just once

Let’s head off for the treetop trail at the head of the valley. The 2 km path from the valley head car park to the start of the treetop trail is accessible in winter on foot, by horse-drawn sleigh or by the hut taxi. Starting at the Lindlingalm hut, the 1 km treetop trail leads over the highlight of the 200 m Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps, up to 42 m above the valley floor. The trail winds over steps, towers, platforms and bridges high up in the forest and is open from 20 December to 31 March, Tuesday to Sunday from 11 am to 9 pm.

There is so much to discover, the new Kids Winter Challenge will help you. There are a total of 6 stops with different checkpoints to conquer: touch tree tops on the Baumzipfelweg, discover witches in the fairytale forest, toboggan on the illuminated slope and conquer fun slopes and snow trails in the Saalbach Hinterglemm. At each stop you get to pinch your Kids Winter Challenge control card and if you complete 3 stops or more, an award awaits you. Let’s go.

Snowtubing: Tearing down the mountain on tyres

If you’ve never slid down the mountain on a tyre before, you should definitely make sure you do, soon! Sit on a tire (tube) and slide down the specially prepared slope, including spins around your own axis.
Great fun for young and old – even for brave grandmas and grandpas – the perfect end to a long winter’s day – the snowtubing slope is open until 9:30 pm. The snowtubing piste is open until 9.30 pm. The piste is free to use with a valid ski pass and has a total of 20 snowtubes.

Horse-drawn sleigh rides in the Glemmtal: A romantic trip through the magical winter landscape

Travel back 100 years in time and take a leisurely sleigh ride through the Glemmtal valley, where stormy weather only increases the romance (a good tip for bad weather)! With an output of two horsepower, the sleigh glides through the Glemmtal winter landscape with you snuggled up warmly, enjoying the peace and quiet. But your children will love it too, as the sleighs have space for the whole family. A horse-drawn sleigh can be reserved just for you on request. For refreshments after your ride, we recommend the excellent fondues at the Lindlingalm hut!

Thousands of ice crystals glitter and you glide silently through this silent world. Your own rhythm and the cold winter mountain air provide clear thoughts. If you are looking for the quieter kind of skiing, you will find it at the end of the valley in Hinterglemm. A small fine cross-country skiing offer with classic and skating prepared trails is waiting for you. Our recommendation for quiet cross-country skiing hours is the Talschluss-Höhenloipe, it leads along the Saalbach to Linglingalm.

Winter tobogganing in Hinterglemm: Hurtling down the valley

Whether you prefer to get up some speed or slide more gently for a more romantic experience, tobogganing is always fun. Speed back down the slope to the hotel. Our closest winter toboggan run is on the Reiterkogel mountain, only 300 m from the hotel. You can ride it slightly slower if you’re a beginner, so it’s suitable for children too. But you can also race down the valley as a wild speedster.
A special highlight is night tobogganing, race towards the lights and feel the cool air around your ears.

Info: The Reiterkogel toboggan run is open daily from 8.30 am to 4.15 pm, and from 6 pm to 9.30 pm Mondays to Saturdays.

FAQs winter in Saalbach Hinterglemm

In December, Saalbach Hinterglemm is transformed into a winter paradise. Temperatures are often between -5°C and 0°C, creating perfect winter sports conditions. Fresh snow covers the mountains and slopes and ensures the best skiing conditions. As the main season has not yet started, the slopes are not yet so crowded and there is plenty of space and freedom.

From Maria Empfängnis (December 8th), the Skicircus turns and you can ski the large Skicircus circuit with connections to Leogang and Fieberbrunn. Depending on the weather and the timing of the Easter holidays, the ski season lasts until the beginning/middle of April.

Yes, you can often ski in Saalbach Hinterglemm at Easter too. In years when Easter is only in the second half of April, the Skicircus is only partially accessible. However, experience shows that there is still enough snow on the slopes.

The winter season lasts from the beginning of December to the beginning/middle of April.

Saalbach Hinterglemm offers a wide range of winter activities in addition to skiing:

  • Snowboarding: The region offers excellent snowboarding opportunities with fun parks and halfpipes.
  • Cross-country skiing: Saalbach Hinterglemm offers a small, fine selection of cross-country ski trails for all those looking for sporty alternatives to skiing.
    Particularly attractive is the Talschluss-Höhenloipe, which stretches along the Saalach to the Lindlingalm far away from the hustle and bustle and offers beautiful scenery.
    The use of all trails is free of charge.
  • Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps & Baumzipfelweg: Our popular winter highlight awaits you at the head of the valley.
    A 42 m high bridge spans the head of the valley at the source of the Saalach.
    Continue along the treetop path.
    A 600 m long path that winds up to 30 m above the forest floor and provides variety with stairs, towers, play stations and platforms.
  • Horse-drawn sleigh rides: For romantics and families, there is hardly anything better than wrapping up in warm blankets and taking a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the idyllic Saalbach Hinterglemm valley to the Lindlingalm.
  • Winter hiking: An incredible 140 km of winter hiking trails open up the magnificent winter landscape of Saalbach Hinterglemm.
    Would you like to enjoy the sun at the summit, but without ski equipment?
    No problem, there is a sun card for the ascent with the cable car.

  • Snowshoeing: Away from the pistes, we recommend 3 wonderful snowshoe hikes: Stemmerkogel, Talschluss and the Spielberghaus circuit.

  • Tobogganing: The toboggan runs in Saalbach Hinterglemm offer tobogganing fun for all ages.
    Either with the Reiterkogelbahn (included in the valid ski pass) in Hinterglemm or with the Pistenraupe to the Spielberghaus at 1,311 m. After a refreshment stop, the three-kilometre-long, floodlit natural toboggan run takes you back down into the valley.
    Night tobogganing is a particular highlight.
  • Ice skating & ice skating: Glide over the ice on the ice rink in the Saalbach Hinterglemm sports center, ideal for family outings, romantic rendezvous…
  • Paragliding: Adventure-seekers can conquer Saalbach Hinterglemm from a bird’s eye view with Fly’n soul Paragliding.
  • Wellness: In the Berg.Spa you can enjoy the winter landscape from the heated outdoor pool or sweat it out in the panoramic sauna with mountain views.
    You can also enjoy the bio-sauna and the brine steam bath.

The huts with very high-quality food are:

  • the Wieseralm at the Reiterkogelbahn right next to the mountain station on the ski slope
  • the Xandl-Stadl on the Zwölferkogel in Hinterglemm near the Westgipfelbahn cable car
  • Genuss hoch 12 at the middle station or Zwölferkogelbahn at the ski slope
  • The Rosswaldhütte impresses with its excellent value for money and serves delicious regional specialties at fair prices.
    It can be reached via pistes 73 and 57, the starting point is the Reiterkogelbahn.
  • The Sonnalm is located on the Reiterkogel, directly at the valley station of the Sunliner 4er, on ski runs no. 34 + 38 and is characterized by its cosy atmosphere and its inexpensive but high-quality food.
  • The Bärnalm, located directly at the Bernkogelbahn mountain station, also offers excellent value for money.
  • The Westgipfelhütte, the highest hut in Saalbach Hinterglemm, is located directly at the mountain station of the Westgipfelbahn and invites you to linger in the midst of a breathtaking mountain world.
  • The Winkleralm is located right next to the middle station of the Zwölferkogelbahn.
    Here you can enjoy Austrian specialties.
  • The AlpenOase Sonnhof, located at the middle station of the Hochalmbahn, offers a choice between a service restaurant and a self-service buffet with show kitchen. In fine weather, guests can enjoy snacks at the bar in the outdoor area.

  • the Simal Alm can be reached from Schattberg West via pistes 7, 4, 4a or via Schattberg East via pistes 2a, 3 and 3a
  • Thurnerlm at Kohlmais on piste 56
  • the Pfefferalm at the Reiterkogelbahn on ski slope no. 70a.

For exuberant après-ski in Hinterglemm, we recommend the legendary Goaßstall (300 m away) or the Schwarzacher (500 m) – both just a short walk from the Rosentalerhof.
